First and Foremost, BE THERE! Do not move, breath or leave your phone unattended for at least ten minutes prior to the interview. To be clear, do not miss the call. If a producer doesn't reach you on the first try - they likely will not call back. They will think you dropped out or forgot the interview. Clear those phone lines and put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on your door. When the media contacts you, via phone or email, BE READY. You usually only get one shot to prove yourself.
Secondly, relax and be yourself. Interviews can be very quick, so relax, speak clearly and have fun.
Finally, be flexible and quick thinking. Although everyone might have agreed on a topic, you have to be able to go off topic with ease. Interviewers often have to respond to the news of the day so what they felt was interesting a few days ago might have a different angle on the day of the show. Be flexible and it should be fine.
